The sports hijab pioneer – since 1999

A Capsters design is not a simple scarf but is distinctive by its ready-made fit. You do not need an undercover to secure your headscarf. Pins and knots are superfluous. The designs are made of stretchable material to fit different head sizes. They come in a variety of colours and materials, some in technical fibres.
They are made of a light weight breathable material to make sports activity more comfortable.

The history of Capsters sports headwear

In 1999 Dutch designer Cindy van den Bremen graduated on four designs of sport headscarves. A girl was expelled from gym class due to her supposedly unsafe hijab. Despite the effort of her parents to solve the issue with the teacher the case ended up in court. It was decided the headscarf can be prohibited by the PE teacher due to safety issues.

As an alternative the girls were allowed to wear a swimming cap and turtle neck: that would cover the same area. From this alternative, Cindy realised it was not about the covering itself, but the WAY the girls covered themselves. She came up with the idea to design a sport headscarf that would meet both the safety regulations and at the same time appeal to the identity of the Muslim girls. The sport hijabs offer a safe alternative to the traditional hijab to wear during gym class.

The brand - Capsters

After Cindy’s graduation a lot of media attention followed both nationally and internationally and orders started coming in. It appeared to be a universal problem. Women and girls from all over the world wanted to have a sport hijab for more comfort and safety during their sports activity. The brand Capsters was launched in 2001 with the first sports range.

The Capsters sport hijabs have been sold worldwide since through the webshop In 2008 the Capsters Ltd. Company was established when designer Cindy asked Karin Mastenbroek to become her business partner at Capsters. Karin has a business degree and compliments the talent and vision of Cindy from a business and strategic perspective.

Today Capsters is the world leading brand of sports hijabs with resellers in over 16 countries worldwide.  In 2019, Capsters moved to Malaysia after the brand was acquired by Innovacia Sdn. Bhd. Cindy and Karin remain close to the Capsters family.
